I listened to a couple hours of this during the final table of the Main Event. The commentators were Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, Jennifer Harman-Traniello and Phil Hellmuth, Jr. When Lindgren and Hellmuth were on Erick suggested 2 prop bets both of which Hellmuth accepted. The 1st: Daniel Bergsdorf is all-in against Andrew Black when Hellmuth had a ‘feeling’ Bergsdorf was going to hit one of his 2 out cards (4 of each for 8 outs) on the river and suckout. Erick offered even money on a $1,000 prop bet which Phil accepted (and lost). The 2nd: Andrew Black was chip leader with close to but less than 1/3 of the remaining chips with 5 or 6 players remaining (I don’t remember if this was before or after Scott Lazar finished 6th but Black had less than 1/3 of the chips). Well, Phil had another ‘feeling’ that Black was going to win it all so Lindgren offered a wager but this time Phil wanted odds. The bet was Phil gets $2,600 if Black wins and Erick gets $2,000 if he doesn’t (he got 5th). I would imagine the other 3 commentators were fighting on who got to be Phil’s partner since it was A) easy—Phil isn’t too keen on sharing mic time. In fact, when David Williams sat down briefly, each time he would start to say something Phil would ‘come over the top’ and interrupt. After 6 to 8 interruptions in a row I was laughing because Phil is oblivious. For me, this ‘unawareness of the absurd’ is what transforms Phil from merely annoying to hilarious. OK, so A) don’t have to (get to) talk much and B) you get to make prop bets with way the best of it until Phil runs out of money. When Daniel left early to play Barry Greenstein in another $500,000 heads-up match at the Wynn, he suggested that Phil come play him, of course. Phil said no (also of course). His main (stated) reasons being that even though he would be a favorite to win (Daniel can be heard laughing in the background) he makes up to 500 million a year with his businesses, clothing line, endorsements, etc. The only person who wishes this was true more than Phil Hellmuth is Erick Lindgren.
